FMCSA Removes Five ELDs, Warns Fleets to Switch by Dec. 16

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has revoked five additional electronic logging devices (ELDs) from its list of registered and compliant systems, leaving thousands of trucking companies scrambling to stay in compliance.

The agency’s latest move affects the following five devices:

  • Premium ELD

  • Evo ELD 1

  • True Logbook

  • Xplore ELD

  • Kami ELD

Motor carriers currently using any of these systems must stop using them immediately and transition to paper logs or compliant ELD software. Carriers have until December 16, 2025, to make the switch. After that, any driver found using one of the revoked devices will be cited for non-compliance and may be placed out of service under the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s criteria.

Why Were These ELDs Revoked?

FMCSA says the revoked devices failed to meet one or more technical specifications required under the ELD rule. This could include anything from inaccurate timekeeping and incomplete HOS data to failure to transmit required logs to safety officials. Until providers correct the issues and resubmit for review, these devices will remain off the approved list.

In total, 24 ELDs have been revoked in 2025 alone—more than any other year since enforcement began. This spike indicates that FMCSA is stepping up audits and oversight to hold providers to higher standards.

As of October 17, there are still 1,133 devices approved for use.

How This Affects Your Fleet

If you’re using one of the revoked devices, you now face a tight 60-day compliance window. Waiting until the deadline puts your business at risk of:

  • Fines and penalties for non-compliance

  • Out-of-service violations during roadside inspections

  • Operational disruptions if drivers are pulled off the road

  • Increased insurance exposure due to compliance lapses

Whether you operate a large fleet or a small independent trucking business, the key to staying protected is acting now—not later.

What You Should Do Immediately

  • Audit all current ELDs in use across your fleet and confirm none are on the revoked list

  • Switch to a compliant, FMCSA-approved ELD before the December 16 deadline

  • Train drivers on paper log procedures as a backup if needed

  • Review insurance policies to ensure you’re covered in case of compliance issues

  • Schedule a compliance check-up with your Allcom Insurance advisor if unsure

Don’t wait until December—make the switch now and keep your business moving.
